530,804. Harmonicas. DIX, A., DIX, R., and WEST, J. July 3, 1939, No. 19373, Convention date, May 4. [Class 88 (ii)] In an harmonica having a slide and two rows of blast openings these openings are spaced by narrow bridges 14 and the reeds corresponding to a scale are arranged alternately in zig-zag manner on the upper and lower reed plates. The slide 15 is provided with a zig-zag series of control openings 16 which can be brought into register with one or the other of the two zigzag series 11, 12 of blast openings, and they have substantially the same dimensions as those openings. The reeds of one zig-zag series form a scale which is half a tone higher or lower than that of the other series. The reeds of adjacent notes are responsive one to inhalation and the next to exhalation. The instrument may have leather &c. valves.
