[Class 39 (i)] The collecting electrodes in apparatus for the electrical precipitation of particles suspended in gases, consists of pairs of plates 1 with flared upper edges 1a to form catch pockets for the deposited particles and baffle plates 3 disposed at intervals transversely of the pockets. The plates 1 are suspended by rods 2 passing through the baffles, and are steadied at their lower ends by wedges 6 and pins 7 passing partly into the spaces between the plates and outside thereof. The baffles are preferably of channel section with the flanges extending in the direction of flow of the gas, and are secured to the supporting bar to which the usual jarring movement is imparted. Preferably the bottom ends of the baffles extend below the bottom edge of the collecting plates into the collecting hopper. The discharge electrodes may consist of tubular rods with projecting points, or of thin metal strips on edge, and are preferably rounded or provided with protecting sleeves where they pass in the neighbourhood of a projecting lip of the catch pockets in order to prevent discharge taking place.
