Abstract

529,724. Vibration-dampers. ETABLISSEMENTS M. HOUDAILLE. May 18, 1939, No. 14861. Convention date, March 29. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In rotary shock-absorbers comprising a fixed cylindrical body 1 provided with inner projections forming liquid-containing chambers with vanes which are rigid with a movable spindle co-axial with the body, some of the chambers being connected by a communication for breaking the flow of the liquid from one chamber to the other, or reversely, during the angular displacement of the spindle, liquid-tightness between the cap 3 of the shock-absorber and the spindle 7 passing through it is ensured by an annular member 35 between the cap and the spindle, such member comprising a flange 37 directed inwardly and powerfully pressed on a corresponding shoulder 38 of the spindle by a spring 58 taking a bearing on the flange and on a removable abutment 39 mounted on the spindle. In the construction shown, the cylinder 1 has fixed sectors 5 forming bearings for the spindle 7 provided with vanes 8. The vanes and sectors form four chambers 16 ... 19. The cap 3 is secured to the cylinder by bolts and nuts, the bolts passing through holes in the sectors 5, and it is spaced from the spindle 7 by the annular packing member 35. The upper vane 8 is provided with openings 20, 21 providing free communication between chambers 16 and 17. These chambers are filled with liquid through an opening closed by a plug 24. The lower vane 8 is formed with a channel 28 communicating with a hollow part of the spindle 7 and with a transverse channel 29 the outlets of which are covered by springs 30, 31. The spindle 7 is also in communication through springs 27, 27a with the chambers 16, 17. The chambers 18, 19 communicate through openings 46, 45 respectively with a recess 47 in the spindle, this recess being adjustable in capacity by means of a member 49 screw-threaded within the spindle. In operation, as the spindle 7 moves in the direction of the arrow 53, liquid under pressure in chamber 19 flows through aperture 45 into chamber 47 then through aperture 46 to chamber 18. Also as the chamber 18 is at reduced pressure the spring 30 moves away from the aperture 29 allowing liquid from the spindle 7 to flow into the chamber 18.
