Abstract
529,448. Automatic exchange systems. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., TAYLOR, R., and BAKER, G. T. May 19, 1939, No. 15010. [Class 40 (iv)] In a non-register-translator system in which two or more satellites each of which includes several thousands of lines share a ten thousands digit, the number of digits dialled is kept to the minimum without running separate junction groups from the main exchange for each of the thousands in the satellites by providing a discriminator set DRS, Fig. 2, which switches the call to the proper satellite in accordance with the thousands digit and subsequently, with the help of an impulse regenerator of the type described in Specification 458,095, sends that and subsequent digits thereto. Metering in accordance with the junction selected is controlled from the discriminator set. Circuit arrangements. Line relay A repeats the thousands digit to magnet JHM of switch JH and to receiving magnet RM of the regenerator. At the end of the digit, dialling relay C releases marking magnet MM which it previously engaged and ON pulls up and locks. At the same time a circuit is made over the discriminating wipers 8 of switch JH whereby HA pulls up with or without the wiper changing relay HB and the switch is sent home. The removal of a short circuit over wiper JH7 now allows JHR to pull up and lock whereupon JH hunts like a line switch under control of K. The latter in addition to switching through energizes the regenerator sending magnet SM and releases P to initiate the sending of the first of the stored digits. IP pulls up on the relapse of P to ensure a pause between digits. When all the digits have been sent ON is released and extends the junction back to the supervisory relays I, D. The distant line relays are held during the switch-over by resistance YB. According to the Provisional Specification discrimination may be controlled by a separate counting chain instead of by a numerical operation of JH. If an unobtainable thousands digit is dialled relay NB is operated over JH8 and sends back NU tone. If the switch JH finds all trunks busy NB is operated over JH5 or JH6 and since HA is operated sends back busy tone. Metering. On the response of supervisory relay D, S and Z relays DA, DB connect metering relay MP to the appropriate pulse lead 11 or 12 for a cycle.
