[Class 106 (i)] In a machine of the type described in Specification 19156/09, [Class 106 (i)] means are provided to ensure correct meshing of the worms and worm gears in re-setting the machine for a subsequent measuring operation. As shown the grooved roller 1, over which the sheet of material is fed, co-operates with a set of measuring wheels 2 mounted on levers 3 and carrying pins 4 adapted to engage star wheels 12 on spindles 14. Each spindle 14 is rotatably mounted at its upper end in a slot in a slide 18 and has secured thereto a worm 16 yieldingly engaging a worm wheel 22. The hub portion of each worm wheel 22 carries a steel band 26 connected in the known manner to a system of levers and the usual indicating mechanism. At the end of a measuring operation the worms 16 are withdrawn to permit the worm wheels to return to the zero position. For this purpose the slide 18 is formed with rack teeth 32 engaging a pinion 34 operatively connected by an arm 36 to a treadle operated link 38. In accordance with the present invention near the end of the upper movement of the link 38 a lever 50, having a pin 52 engaging a slot in the link is raised to rock a shaft 44 and thereby raise a set of latches 40 on the shaft so as to engage a stop pin 58 on the corresponding worm wheels 22 immediately before the end of their return movement. On release of the link 38 the worms move into co-operative relation with the worm wheels as the latches are being restored to their initial position. A set screw 56 is provided to adjust the timing of the lifting of the lever 50.
