Abstract
528,097. Separating solid materials; treating mould materials. STEVENS, A. H. (Royer Foundry & Machine Co.). April 27, 1939, No. 12639. [Class 117] [Also in Group XXII] Apparatus for re-conditioning moulders' sand by the removal of refuse and by aeration, consists of a belt 11, Fig. 1, provided at its operative surface with springs 21 running over rollers 12 at the bottom of a hopper 10 and inclined upwardly in its direction of travel. At the upper end of the hopper is disposed a sweep comprising a number of separate blades 29 which are adjustably secured to supports 28 pivotally mounted on a shaft 27. The blades have longitudinal slots through which pass screws 31 and positioning studs 34 on clamping plates 30. Each plate 30 is connected to a rod 36 by a spring 35 and the rod passes through an arcuate slot 37 in a bracket member 25 and is carried by a handle 38 pivoted to the bracket member. In normal operative position, the rod lies in a recess at the end of the slot and is released therefrom to allow the sweep to be lifted bodily. The bracket member is adjustable on the frame to allow adjustment of the sweep bodily to or from the belt. The bottom end of the hopper is closed by a weighted gate 58 which is moved to allow discharge of accumulated refuse. The gate may be tilted normally in a forward direction to prevent bridging of the sand in the hopper, and the lower sides of the hopper are preferably made straight and vertical for the same purpose. The belt supporting rollers 12 have flanges provided with openings flaring outwardly to allow discharge of sand falling over the sides of the belt, and intermediate the rollers are deflector plates 49 for discharging sand falling from the sides of the belt laterally. These deflectors are carried by a support 46 for the belt which is adjustably secured by straps to the frame. Preferably one of the supporting rollers is mounted in sliding bearings which may be adjusted by screws or be automatically adjustable under the action of a spring. An adjustable deflector 64 is mounted at the upper end of the machine for directing the cleaned sand to any required collection point, and a hood 70 is mounted over the hopper to prevent the material in the hopper being thrown out, and a guard 69 is provided over the lower part. The machine is mounted on a wheeled frame for transport.
