Abstract

527,540. Washing-machines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 14, 1939, No. 11355. Convention date, April 23, 1938. [Class 138 (ii)] The perforated receptacle 16, stationary casing 10. driving motor 24 and transmission gear 26 form an integral unit which is removably and resiliently suspended within a cabinet 41. The receptacle which rotates on an inclined axis, is provided with internal vanes 37, 38 set at alternate different angles whereby the vanes 38 move the articles to the domed inner end of the receptacle and raise them out of the water. The articles then fall over the radially ribbed dome 19 back into the water and are engaged by the vanes 37 which cause them to travel towards the other end of the receptacle. An annular curtain of resilient material 50 is arranged between the aperture 49 of the cabinet and the axially registering apertures 14, 21 of the casing and receptacle. The receptacle is rotated at low speed for washing and at a high speed for centrifugal drying, the change-speed gear being operated by a pedal-controlled lever 27. Hot and cold water are supplied through a pipe 31 and dirty liquid is discharged by pipe 55, pump 54 and pipe 56.
