Abstract

526,027. Chair seats. EXPRESS MOTOR & BODY WORKS, Ltd., and CLARK, F. C. Feb. 9, 1939, No. 4340. [Class 52 (ii)] The seat portion of an X-frame chair is formed by a sheet of flexible material attached at one end to a spring roller the end portion of the sheet having a hem or pocket into which the winding member of the roller is inserted and to which it is secured by a strip of rigid material overlying the sheet. In the form shown the upper end of the frame 12, Fig. 1, is provided with a slotted housing or cover 24 for the reception of the a spring roller 28, Fig. 4, comprising a spindle 30, a tubular rotary winding member 32, a bearing member 36, and a coil spring 40. The flexible material 54 is formed with a hem or pocket 52 into which the winding member 32 is inserted and to which it is secured by an outer rigid strip 56 and screws 58. The free end of the flexible material has a metal hook 60 for detachably connecting it to the front rail member 62. In a modified form, as shown in Fig. 7, the winding member is formed as a slotted metal tube 80 with inner and outer bridge pieces 84, 86 connected by screws 88 which secure the hem of the flexible material to the winding member.
