[Class 138 (i)] A dish-washing machine provided with means for blowing-in air to cause turbulence of the washing liquid and for drying the dishes after rinsing, comprises a vat 10 supported on legs 11 and fitted with hot and cold water supply conduits and overflow and waste openings. The overflow pipe 13 extends down one side of the vat to a combined waste trap and valve 16 provided with a lift valve 19 operated by a lever 22, Fig. 5. The vat has a hinged cover 23 seating on packing 24 and provided with a vent pipe 25 with an internal baffle 26, Fig. 4. Two pipes 29 from hot and cold water supplies are connected to fish-tailed nozzles 29a, 30a arranged at the level of the upper part of a dish rack 39. The sprays from the nozzles are broken up by impact upon the rack or the dishes therein. Air-supply pipes 31, 32 arranged along two sides of the vat or as a ring around its bottom have inwardly-inclined orifices or nozzles and are connected by a pipe 33 and flexible tube 34 to a blower 35 driven by an electric motor 36 or other prime mover and fitted with an air filter 37. The motor and blower may be mounted separately, as shown, or may be carried on the vat. The removable dish rack 39 comprises a frame 40, 40a, Fig. 6, pivoted shelves 41 for plates and racks 47 for cups, and a wire mesh pocket 43 for cutlery. The wires 40a and 41 are set at an angle to the plane of the end of the rack, so that dishes supported thereby can intermesh. The shelves 41 and racks 47 are supported respectively by brackets 42a and 48. In operation, a loaded rack is placed in the vat, the latter is filled with hot water and a detergent, and the blower is started. After washing, the dishes are rinsed with clean water, the latter is then drained away, and air is blown through the vat to dry the dishes. Baffles may be provided on the cover to break up the jets from the nozzles 29a, 30a. The valve 19 may close under gravity or spring action, or may be arranged to remain in either open or closed position. Preferably, an airheating unit is associated with the blower, to assist in heating the vat liquid and in drying the dishes, and means may be provided for heating the liquid before or after injection into the vat. In a modification, Fig. 9, the water supply pipes 56 constitute hinge brackets for the cover 53, and discharge to spraying nozzles 54 carried by the cover or to a perforated chamber formed in the cover. The pipes 56 are journalled in the outlets of control valves 60.
