524,067. Air-raid shelters. MATHEWS, C. B., and AMBROSE, J. G. Jan. 21, 1939, No. 2104. [Class 20 (i)] Shelters or dug-outs for use in air-raid protection are covered by concrete balls 3 built up in pyramid form, so that a blow delivered on any point, causes the impacting body to glance off while the balls move freely in different directions. The balls are supported on beams placed in two or more thicknesses over the shelter. For an extended shelter the balls may be arranged as a triangular prism. A ridge of sand 4 may retain the balls in position until struck and sand may be filled into the spaces between the balls.
