Abstract
523,670. Disinfecting and drying clothes &c. DODWELL, W. H., and DUNNING, W. G. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 901. [Class 81 (i) ] [Also in Group XIII] Apparatus for drying and/or sterilizing clothes comprises a chamber 10 with electrical heating elements 12 disposed within and around its walls, and a fan 29 for circulating the air within the chamber. Preferably air inlets and outlet cocks 24, 26 are provided to enable air to be circulated through the chamber after an initial period of heating during which these cocks are closed. The clothes are mounted on hangers in a rack 16 mounted on wheels 18 running on rails 20 whereby it may be removed from the chamber for changing its contents. The back plate 22 of the rack serves as a baffle for the fan, and when the rack is withdrawn it acts as a temporary closure for the doorway 15. The whole apparatus may be mounted on a vehicle as shown. In a modification, Fig. 4, the chamber 40 is cylindrical and the clothes are put into a rotating basket 43 coaxial with the fan 52. The basket is mounted on short spindles 44, 45 carried in bearings on the end doors of the chamber and fitting into serrated sockets 50 in the ends of the basket. The latter can therefore be removed when the door is opened.
