Abstract
522,507. Refrigerating. BROQUINDA, Inc. March 10, 1939; No. 7851. Convention date, Jan. 12, 1939. [Class 29] Refrigerated containers such as railway cars or portable storage cabinets comprise a heat insulated casing 1 in which is supported a doublewalled container 7, 8 for a solid refrigerant such as CO2 or water ice, the space between the walls 7, 8 forming a cooling element of a heat transfer system including a coil in the cabinet having a valve in the return connection controlled by a thermostat adjustable from the exterior of the cabinet. The cabinet has doors 4, 5 and a framing 6 for supporting the double walled container 7, 8 accessible through a door 9 for charging with the solid CO2 &c. The space between the walls 7, 8 is divided by a helical strip or by partitions inclined alternatively in opposite directions and each provided with an opening in its lower side. Coils 18, 23 for thermosyphonic circulation of liquid are arranged along the sides of the cabinet and connected to the space between the walls 7, 8. The inlet connection 13 for the coil 18 branches into two pipes 16, 17 which reunite to form a single return pipe 18 connected to the upper part of the container 8 through a valve 19 the handle 21 of which extends into a control box 22 on the outside of the cabinet. The other. coil 23 has a valve 24 in the return pipe operated through Bowden wire 26 from a thermostat 27 in the space to be cooled, the thermostat control extending to the control box 22. The lower branches' of the coils are provided with fins 18<1>, and the coils are supported in a wooden framework 57. Condensate from' the coils is collected in gutters 30, 31 and discharged by pipes 32. Gas vaporizing from the refrigerant passes by a pipe 33 to pipes 35, 39 controlled by valves 36, 40, the pipe 35 being connected to a coil 37 for further cooling of the cabinet terminating in a discharge connection 38 to the atmosphere. The pipe 39 is connected to a pipe 41 which opens into the insulation 3 of the cabinet.
