Abstract
522,480. Agricultural tractors. STEPHENSON, & SONS, Ltd., G., and STEPHENSON, G. Nov. 15, 1938, No. 33204. [Class 6 (i)] A tractor is provided, at the rear of the transport wheels, with one or more downwardly projecting cutters to break up the soil which has been compacted by the wheels. A bar 11 extends across the rear of the driving wheels 10 and carries a downwardly projecting tine 13 (shown in inoperative position) at each end in line with the wheel. Each tine comprises a steel bar 14 carrying a pointed flat plate 15 at the end. To raise the tines when the tractor is reversed or is travelling over a road, they are adjustably mounted in screw clamps 18 carried by spindles 17 which are rotated together by links 24, 25, 26 coupled by a bar 19 which is rotated by a handle 21. A catch 23 locks the handle to a quadrant 22. A scraper 28 is provided to remove soil from the wheel 10, and is arranged between two rows of projecting spuds 27. In an alternative, Fig. 3, the tine 13 is adjustable vertically in a support 31 to which it is pivoted at 30, so that in forward movement the upper end rests against a lug 16 while in backward movement the tine swings to inoperative position. A cam 35 carried by a spindle 17 is provided to move the tine positively to inoperative position when desired.
