[Class 98 (i)] Supporting means for an X-ray tube comprising a column movable along a trackway and carrying a vertically adjustable bracket supporting the tube, comprise means controlling the locking of the column and bracket in their adjusted positions arranged on the bracket towards the end remote from the column. In the form shown, the column comprises parallel tubular members 1, 2 carried by a base 3 having wheels 5 which run on a track. The X-ray tube is supported on a counterweighted carriage 19 sliding on a bracket formed by tubes 20, 21 connected by a crosspiece 22 and yoke 23, the centre portion 24 of the latter being journalled on a carriage 18 vertically slidable on the tubular members 1, 2. The means for locking the carriage 18 on the column, and the column in position on the track, comprise a vertical and rotary shaft 6 extending up between the members 1, 2 and connected by gears 9, 10 to one of the axles 4 of the rollers 5. The shaft 6 may be engaged by friction members 25, 26 in the carriage 18, thus locking the carriage on the column and preventing rotation of the shaft, which prevents rotation of the wheels 5 and so locks the base 3 on its track. The friction members are operated by a lever 30 pivoted in one arm of the yoke member 23. the lever being connected through a universal joint to a rod 32 which extends through the bracket tube 20 to a control lever 28 at the end. The angular adjustment of the bracket is maintained by a locking device comprising a lever 38 pivoted in the other arm 39 of the yoke 23 and having a wedge-shaped end engaging in a circular groove in the face of a member 35 on the end of the journal on which the bracket is mounted. The lever 38 is operated from a control lever 43 through a rod 42. In the construction shown, the column is mounted on a ball-bearing turntable 45 on the base 3, which may be locked in one of four positions at rightangles to one another by a foot-lever 47.
