Abstract

521,817. Push-button mechanism. METCALFE, C., and PARRISH, H. J. Nov. 26, 1938, No. 34448. [Class 37] In a mechanically-operated push-button receiver the manual tuning means is automatically declutched while a push-button is depressed. Depression of a push-button 1 causes its associated arm 2 to contact with a pivoted vane 3 running longitudinally across the chassis and thus rotate a disc 5 fixed on the trunnions carrying the vane 3. An arm 5a on the disc 5 is connected to lever and link mechanism 6, 7 the end of the lever 7 being adjustably pivoted on a support 9. The rotor axis 16 of the tuning condensers is rotated manually by a knob 15 through friction gearing comprising a disc 12 the edge of which is gripped between the shaft 13 carrying the knob 15 and a collar 10 mounted on the reduced end 13a of the shaft 13 and pressed against the disc 12 by a spring 11. The collar 10 is connected to the lever 7 so that on rotation of the vane 3 the lever mechanism 7, 8 moves away the collar 10 from the disc 12 thus breaking the friction drive. Press-button mechanism. Depression of a push-button 1 causes a cam 17 adjustably mounted thereon to contact with a pivoted plate 18 which extends longitudinally along the chassis and is provided with slots through which the arms 2 pass. An end plate 20 is formed rigidly with the plate 18 and is pivoted to levers 22, 23, 25 connected to the rotor axis 16. Depression of a push-button thus rotates the rotor element of the condenser through by an amount depending on the inclination of the pivoted plate 18 to the corresponding faces of the cam 17 which is adjusted according to the tuning position required. Rotation of the axis 16 is transferred by means of an endless chain on the pulley 27 to another pulley carrying a pointer moving across an indicator scale. In a modified form of the apparatus (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) the push-buttons are arranged vertically and the friction drive for manual tuning takes the form of a driving wheel making frictional contact on the inner surface of a flanged disc attached on the rotor shaft, disconnection of the drive being obtained by levers which move the driving wheel upwardly against the tension of a spring.
