Abstract
521,610. Casting-machines. DEUTSCHE EISENWERKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 23, 1938, No. 34019. Convention date, Feb. 3. Addition to 521,279. [Class 83 (i)] Coating moulds; mould materials.-In lining centrifugal moulds for casting iron or steel pipes &c. as in the parent Specification, the coherence of at least the innermost layer of the granular material is increased, so that somewhat lower speeds of rotation may be employed, by imbedding or adding granular substances of greater density, such as iron ores or barytes, or adding a small proportion of a binder, such as boric acid, which will not generate gas or render the lining impervious to gas. The binder may be mixed with the innermost layer only or be applied to it subsequently. Cohesion may be increased by pressure of profiled rolls &c. introducing the material into the mould in a heated condition or applying internal heat to sinter it. The materials may be introduced by a long casting gutter and if desired by gas pressure. In modifications a facing of fine graphite, aluminium powder, aluminium oxide, magnesia, &c, alone or with a dry or liquid binder such as water-glass, boric acid, oleaginous binding material &c. may be applied. A wire fabric or netting may also be arranged in or on the inner face of the lining.
