Abstract
521,481. Concentrating ores. HOLT, F. J. W., ULLMAN, A., and HONNOR, H. T. Nov. 21, 1938, No. 33849. [Class 82 (ii)] Apparatus for concentrating ores comprises an inclined trough or sluice having sections a, a', of different depths, the section a<SP>1</SP> being of increasing depth and preferably decreasing width in which the minerals become concentrated, the lighter material overflowing the sides a<SP>2</SP> and the concentrates being removed through an adjustable slot a' in which works an intermittently rotated vertically adjustable brush f. There may be a series of sections a, a<SP>1</SP> alternating along the length of the trough. The ore and water are fed to the upper end of the trough and the concentrates are removed by the brush either to a vessel g from which they are discharged by a conveyer k, or, in a modification, into each one alternately of a pair of collecting tanks. The trough is mounted on rails c and is reciprocated under control of springs by adjustable gearing d, d<SP>1</SP>, the intermittent rotation of the brush f being effected by ratchet j driven by adjustable gearing. The inclination of the table is adjustable by means of screw and scissor gearing m. In modifications, the brush f may be continuously rotated or may be omitted, or it may be replaced by a cylinder covered with corduroy or felt; the surface of the trough may be formed with riffles, studs, or pins; or a system of pins may be supported upside down in contact with the surface of the trough.
