Abstract

520,478. Polishing. COURTAULDS, Ltd., GIVENS, J. H., and LUCAS, A. Nov. 16, 1938, No. 33339. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] Holes in nozzles, particularly those of soft metals used in the production of artificial filaments, are filled with a mixture such as SiO 2 , 56; PhO, 24.0 ; Na 2 O, 9 ; K 2 O, 9 ; and boric acid 1 per cent. The mixture melts at a temperature below 750‹C. and after cooling the faces of the nozzles are polished. The filling is removed by dissolving in hydrofluoric acid.
