[Class 78 (i)] Washers stored in the receptacle 3 are lifted in batches by the reciprocating plate 5 and delivered to the inclined shoot 6 where they fall by gravity on to a rotating wheel 7 with pocketed periphery. Washers, not in the pockets, are relifted by the rotating roller 9 and given a second chance of finding the pockets. Washers in the pockets are delivered singly to a shoot 2 comprising two spaced side bars and a bottom plate. The shoot and wheel 7 are arranged at the same inclination which is adjustable by rocking the common supporting casting 28 about an axis 31 as .permitted by a clamping ,bolt 37 and arcuate slot 39. At the lower end of the shoot the lowermost washer may be held by spring fingers 13, Fig. 6, until forcibly removed by the bolt or screw to which it is to be applied. A vibrating hammer 15, Fig. 2, strikes the shoot 2 and prevents sticking of the washers. In a modified apparatus, the upper edge of the plate 5 is V-shaped in longitudinal section and forwardly-bevelled in cross-section and it moves laterally at right angles to the plane of the paper while it is moving vertically. This allows the wheel 7 to be dispensed with ; the roller 9 directing sufficient washers to the shoot 2. In this case the walls of the shoot 2 are formed with undercut recesses at the base to facilitate handling lock washers with warped teeth.
