Abstract

519,505. Collapsable tubes. WILDENHAIN, J. Nov. 7, 1938, No. 32206. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1937. (Class 66] Collapsable tubular containers are produced from tubes formed from strips of parchmentized cellulose material the overlapping edges of which are parchmentized together, the tubes being cut to the requisite length, and one end of each section so formed being contracted by folding to form the head portion of the container. The tubes are varnished to make them waterproof and non-hygroscopic, but may first be treated with polymerization products or rubber-like substances to produce an adhesive and insulating layer under the varnish coating. The varnish employed may comprise artificial resins, nitro- or acetyl-cellulose &c. alone or in a mixture, in a solvent such as acetone, and with or without toluol or other plasticizing agent, and the material for the adhesive layer may comprise polyacryl acid ester, polyvinylacetate, latex, guttapercha &c. applied either in solution in organic solvents or in an aqueous dispersion. The coatings are applied in dipping baths, the tube being supported on a collapsable mandrel for drying between the coating operations.
