Abstract

518,413. Treating solids with liquids; extracting metals. BURNETT, J. L. Aug. 24, 1938, No. 24864. [Class 82 (i)] In apparatus for extracting metals, or compounds thereof, from their ores, acid passes by gravity from a storage tank 5 to the underside of a porous stone false bottom 13 supporting the ore in a leaching tank 9, in which it passes upwardly through the ore charge, and thence in succession to a solution tank 20, a precipitating tank 27 in which it passes downwardly and the precipitate is deposited on a porous stone false bottom 29, and finally to an acid storage tank 36 from which it is returned by a pump 38 to the tank 5. In the apparatus shown duplicate leaching and precipitation tanks 10, 28 are provided, together with connections allowing them to be used together with, or, alternatively to, the tanks 9, 27 respectively. For extracting gold and silver nitric and hydrochloric acids, bromine and chlorine may be employed, and for copper sulphurous acid, bicarbonate of soda being used in each case for precipitation.
