Abstract

518,017. Carbethoxyacetylamino-benzenes and naphthalenes. REINDORP, J. H. Aug.3, 1938, No. 22987. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] Compounds of the general formula where R is methoxy, nitro, halogen or a fusedon benz group are prepared by condensing a compound of the general formula C4H5O-COCH2CO-X, where X is halogen or alkoxy, with a compound of the general formula NH2-C6H4- R1 where R has the meaning indicated above. 1-carbethoxyacetylamino-2-methoxybenzene is prepared by' condensing malonic acid monoethyl ester mono-acid chloride or diethyl malonate with o-anisidine. 1-carbethoxyacetylamino-2-chlorbenzene is similarly prepared using o-chloraniline. The Provisional Specificationrefers to compounds of the general formula where Ri and R2 are hydrogen atoms or alkylgroups such as methyl, ethyl, or propyl, aryl groups such as phenyl, aralkyl groups such as benzyl, heterocyclic groups.such as thiazole, thiazoline, oxazole, oxazoline, selenazole, selenazoline, pyridine, quinoline, indolenine, diazine,. including pyrimidine, thiodiazole, and quinazoline, benzthiazole, naphthathiazole, and anthrathiazole, or groups linked together as a single cyclic grouping, such as pyridine, quinoline, piperidine, pyrazoleand indole and R 3 is an alkyl group such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, or butyl ; an aryl group such as phenyl, or an aralkyl group such as benzyl, prepared by reacting a compound of general formula X-CO-CH2-COOR3, with a compound of formula R1R 2NH.R1 is preferably a hydrogen atom and R2 a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group; suitable substitutes being halogen atoms or nitro, hydroxy, alkoxy, or amino groups.
