Abstract
515,453. Heating soil by electricity. MONKHOUSE, A. June 2, 1938, No. 16588. [Class 39 (iii)] Soil to be sterilized is contained in a truck having metal end plates 17, 18 and divided into compartments by metal plates 23, 20, 22, 19, 21. The plates 18, 20, 19, 17 are connected to the three phases of an electric supply system, 41, 42, 43, through connecting points 31, 33, 35, and 37, respectively. The intermediate plates 21, 22, 23 are arranged to be. switched into the circuit, each at a phase different from its adjacent electrodes, so that during the initial heating of the soil the distance between the electrodes can be halved.
