Abstract

514,840. Planting - machines. BOMFORD, D. R., and BOMFORD, E. R. May 17, 1938, No. 14654. [Class 6 (i)] A machine for planting and watering is provided with an open-topped cylinder having a bottom in the form of a piston which is reciprocated at intervals to eject water which flows from a reservoir into the cylinder. Fig. 1 shows a machine having a blade-like share 9 with outwardly diverging ends 9a to form a furrow. As shown in Fig. 3 the parts 9a are provided with brackets 11 which adjustably support a cylinder 10 which is supplied continuously with water from a reservoir 14. A piston 10b in the cylinder is connected by a lever 15 with a link 17 which is pivoted to a lever 18. The lower end of the lever 18 is connected by a rod 25 to levers 27, 29 pivoted on the tractor 8. The lever 29 is struck at intervals by studs 8d on the tractor wheel causing a downward movement of the piston in the cylinder 10. When the piston has reached its lowest position and the cylinder is full of water the lever 29 is released from the stud 8d and the piston is raised under the influence of a spring 21. The blade 9 is pivoted at 6a to the machine and dt can be clamped in various positions by a slot and nut device 9c. The usual curved members for closing the furrow and wheels 30 for pressing the soil may be provided.
