Abstract
514,510. Indicating - apparatus. S P E R R Y GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. March 25, 1938, Nu. 9136. Convention date, March 27, 1937. [Class 106 (iv)] For illuminating indicating instruments such as those in motor vehicles and aircraft a substantially flat window cover 3 is spaced from a supporting plate 5 by a spacing member, shown as a rim 7, through which light passes from a lamp 9 near the edge of the member, without reflection on to the inner surface of the cover from which it is reflected on to the dial. The part of the rim 7<SP>1</SP> next the lamp may be painted or ground to reduce the light entering at that point, and at other parts the outer edge is painted with light reflecting paint. The socket into which the lamp screws has a small ring 14 connected to one supply wire insulated from the socket 11 into which the screw base 10 carrying the lamp is screwed. The lamp holding member 16 preferably of insulating material is fastened on a cut away part of the casing and has doubly curved surface 17 with extensions in the casing painted with light reflecting material. This mounting enables the lamp to be replaced without disturbing. the vacuum in aircraft instruments. Specification 494,945 is referred to.
