Abstract
512,452. Titanic acid esters. I.G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-CrES. March 4, 1938. No. 6898. Convention date, March 4, 1937. Addition to 479,470 [Class 2(iii)] Organic titanium compounds are prepared by treating titanium tetrahalides with aromatic hydroxy compounds in the presence of ammonia or organic bases. The reaction is preferably started in the absence and completed in the presence of the ammonia or amine. Inert organic solvents are advantageously present. In examples (1) titanium tetraphenolate is prepared by dropping titanium tetrachloride into a benzene solution of phenol and refluxing. After cooling a benzene solution of butylamine is added, causing a temperature rise. The product Crystallizes on cooling and is recrystallized from benzene. (2) Aniline is employed instead of butylamine. A mixture of titanium phenolate and aniline hydrochloride is obtained from which the phenolate is extracted with benzene.
