Abstract
511,183. Casting-machines EYERMANN, P. Dec. 10, 1937, No. 34305. [Class 83 (i)] Metal pouring.-In casting steel or other ingots the metal flows into a distributer 7 to reduce momentum from which it is ejected by centrifugal force through a number of passages 8 into the same number of substantially radial moulds 9 adjustable before or during casting. The moulds 9 may have their larger ends inwards as shown in Fig. 5, or outwards and may be inclined as shown in broken lines, or adjustable to the horizontal table 14 on which they are mounted or arranged as shown in Fig. 4, at an inclination to a radius to avoid the incoming stream of metal from striking the side walls. In other modifications the moulds may be rotated about their axes, Fig. 9, or moved radially outwards, Fig. 8, during casting, the distributer 7 having nozzles 51 which project into the moulds. If desired, the distributer 7 may be replaced by an annular trough 44, Fig. 3, fed from a ladle 1 or by a duct 73. The moulds may be moved by separate electric motors 59 supplied with current by leads 47 or 34, Fig. 1, and slip rings. In another modification, the rotating table 14, Fig. 11, is arranged at an angle which may be adjusted during casting by a sector 137 worm 139 and motor 128, the table being rotated by bevel gearing 135 from a shaft 136 co-axial with the sector 137. In another modification, the inclination of a mould to a radius may be varied during casting by a slide 112, Fig. 14, moved in an arcuate groove 113 by a motor 114. If desired, the molten metal may be protected from the air by a cylindrical member 36, Fig. 1, and stuffing boxes 35, 37, filled with salt, sand, heavy oil or low-melting-point metal. Windows 38 and a vent 80 may also be provided.
