Abstract
510,254. Bending glass sheets. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., FORBES, L. J. B., and BIRD, G. W. T. Jan. 29, 1938, No. 2893. [Class 56] An apparatus for bending glass sheets comprises a former composed of wooden slats 1, Fig. 1, supported side by side in a frame 2, the slats being slidable on one another so that their front edges 1a can be adjusted to form a surface of the desired curvature. The slats when adjusted are prevented from moving on one another either by clamping them together by bolts 4 or by abutting their rear edges against a curved template. A glass sheet to be bent may be suspended in a vertical position and pressed between two formers one of which is of the laminar construction described, a concave former 11, Fig. 5, may be of the known type made of battens. The formers are hung on vertical faceplates 14 which are moved to and from one another by hydraulic cylinders 22.
