Abstract
509,242. Medicines ; X-ray contrast media. KRAUSE, G. A. Dec. 6, 1937, Nos. 33732 and 33734. Convention dates, Dec. 4, 1936, and Sept. 10, 1937. Addition to 483,221, [Group III]. Drawings to Specification. [Class 81 (i)] [Also in Group III] Preparations suitable for the intravenous injection of medicines and X-ray contrast media are obtained by making aqueous dispersions of solid organic compounds according to the parent Specification, having particles of isotropic or anisotropic form by adding a solution of the compound in an organic solvent to water in the presence of an additional colloid and within certain defined temperature limits and concentrating them quickly and preferably in vacuo, with constant agitation, in a rotating cylindrical evaporator. If desired, rocking and similar movements may also be imparted to the evaporator. In addition, agglomeration or sedimentation of the particles may be prevented on standing by adding to the sol or suspension during or after the concentration a sufficient amount of a hydrophilous, jelly-forming substance, e.g. gelatine or agar, that at room temperatures, below 30‹ C., a solid jelly will first be formed, and the Brownian movement of the particles suppressed. According to an example, 50 gms. of tri-iodine heptadecylic diethyl methanol is dissolved in 4000 c.c. of alcohol and added at 30‹ C. to 6000 c.c. water containing 0.03 per cent of lecithin. A suspension of spherical particles having an average diameter of 0.5Á, is formed. It is then concentrated at 12-18‹ C. until the disperse phase is about 35 per cent of the total volume. Gelatine is then added in an amount equal to 1-1.5 per cent of the disperse phase. A rigid jelly is formed at room temperatures. Above 30‹ C. a liquid sol is formed.
