Abstract

507,504. Heating vehicles. WALLER, T. Dec. 18, 1937, Nos. 35069/37 and 16253/38. [Classes 64 (ii) and 64 (iii)] In apparatus for heating motor road and other vehicles as described in Specification 487,060, air collected by a funnel 15 passes through a flexible pipe 17 to a heater 1 surrounding the exhaust pipe 2 and thence by a pipe 18 to another heater 4 surrounding the silencer, from which it is delivered through a grating 21 to the vehicle body. The heater 1 contains a corrugated perforated plate 5, and copper wool 7, surrounded by asbestos insulation 26 between metal casings 14, 27. The heater 4 may be of arcuate shape, strapped on to the silencer 3, and may also contain a corrugated plate and copper wool. The corrugations may be brazed to the inner plate of the heater. The copper wool may be arranged at the forward ends only of the heaters. The flow of hot air may be controlled by a valve operated by a Bowden wire 22, the valve being associated with another valve controlling an outlet 24 for the hot air, when not required in the vehicle. The heater 1 or 4 may be used alone The pipe 20 may be insulated by a woven asbestos covering protected from damp by insulated tape.
