Abstract

502,423. Gramophone recording and reproducing circuits. DICTAPHONE CORPORATION. Sept. 21, 1937, No. 25596. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1936. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A dictating machine of the kind comprising recording and reproducing styli is provided with a piezo-crystal recorder-reproducer unit 22 which is operated in conjunction with a switch 35, whereby the microphone 33 of the mouthpiece 7 of the instrument may be connected to the input circuit of an amplifier 32 to function as a transmitter during' recording, and to the output circuit of the amplifier to function as a reproducing microphone during reproduction. The switch 35, which is provided with two arms, is operated through a system of levers 41, 38, 37, Fig. 4, by the manual control lever 27 which actuates the recorder-reproducer unit. The amplifier input and output leads 77, 78 are connected to the pivoted ends of the switch arms, the recorder-reproducer lead 93 to the centre one of three contacts and the microphone lead 94 to the two outer contacts. Fig. 6 shows the circuit connections during reproducing, the lead 93 being connected to the input circuit of the amplifier and the lead 94 to the output circuit. For recording, the arms of the switch are moved to the right to reverse the connections to the amplifier. In order to supply a small current to the heating elements 79 of the amplifier when the machine is not in use, a switch 31 in series with a resistance 80 is provided in the power supply circuit, and when this switch is closed a signal lamp 30 is illuminated to indicate that the machine is connected to the power supply. When the motor switch 6 is closed to operate the machine, the switch 31 and resistance 80 are 'shortcircuited by a connection to the contact head 82 of the motor switch, and full operating current is passed through the heating circuit of the amplifier. The piezo-crystal recorderreproducer unit forms the subject of Specification 502,445.
