Abstract
500,894. Filters. DIXON, B. Oct. 28, 1937, No. 29455. [Class 46] A process for filtering beer consists in passing to a sterilized tank a first-filtered portion of the beer and subsequently returning this portion to the main flow to mix with the unfiltered beer just prior to its entry into the filter. As shown, a tank F is adapted to communicate through valves D, Y with the main conduit through a filter B. The first portion of beer coming from the fermenting or other vessel is passed through the filter B and then into the tank F, which has previously been sterilized, filled with water to exclude air, and afterwards filled with carbon dioxide. A valve X at the. top of the tank is opened to allow escape of carbon dioxide as the tank is being filled with beer. Subsequently valve D is closed and valves Y and H arc opened, and the beer in the tank F is gradually entrained with the main flow through the filter B. The description refers to a filter composed of one or more of the following : vegetable fibres, asbestos fibres, and kieselguhr, and used with or without a final filter composed of very finely-woven silk.
