499,221. Supply systems for discharge lamps ; liquid cooling-systems. ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS BARBIER, BENARD, & TURENNE. July 29, 1937, No. 21036. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1936. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XI and XIII] A light projector such as a search-light comprises a cylinder 2 carrying the optical system mounted on a frame 4 by trunnions 3, the source of light being a high pressure mercury vapour lamp 1 cooled by liquid circulation, the cooling group of which is enclosed in a casing 7 stationary with reference to the lamp. The lamp 1 is supplied with high voltage A.C. from a transformer 8 the primary of which is connected through a switch 10, safety switch 27, switch 13, sliding contacts 15 in the trunnion 3, and sliding contacts 16 in the frame 4 to A.C. mains. The transformer 8 is mounted in a casing rotatable with the cylinder 2. The lamp 1 is water cooled by a closed circulating system in which an electric motor 17 supplied from the main 12 actuates a diaphragm pump 18. The motor 17 also drives a fan for cooling the radiator 30. Reservoirs 32 and 19 are provided which are illuminated and have level inspection windows. A diaphragm operated switch 23, 24 in the system maintains an electromagnetic switch 26, 27 controlling the supply to the lamp 1 closed only as long as cooling fluid is circulating. An indicator lamp 28 is also energized. A stop cock 34 controls the circulating system and may be operated when the lamp mounting is in the position for changing the lamp whereby all circuits are de-energized. The cylindrical mounting may have a flat rear door 36, Fig. 3, on which the lamp is carried by arms 38. A small light shutter 39 of the camera type may be provided in front of the lamp for signalling.
