[Class 124] A pneumatic rock drill is constructed integrally with a rope hauling mechanism or like device for successively feeding the whole machine in the drilling direction. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a rope 10 is wound on a drum 9 having a wheel 8 driven by the screw 7 of a helical gear which is integral with or rigidly connected to the shaft 6 of a rotary motor, the cylinder 2 of which is secured in a projection 3 on the rear part 1 of the drill. The motor and drill have a common inlet for compressed air. The free end of the rope 10 is secured to a stationary point outside the machine and adjacent the hole to be drilled. It may be secured to a bolt in the rock, or it may be secured to a bracket which is adjustably mounted on a supporting pillar and has a loop serving to guide and support the drill. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the shaft 16 of a stepfeed mechanism 15 for rotating the drill is made integrally with or connected to the screw 17 of a helical gear, the wheel of which may be coupled to a rope drum 21 by means of a claw coupling or clutch 22 controlled by a spring 23. This coupling may be replaced by a friction clutch.
