Abstract
498,694. Hand rakes ; hand tools for cutting grass. ROBERTSON, R. July 24, 1937, No. 20507. [Classes 6 (ii) and 6 (iii)] A rake has combined with it or formed in one with it a blade for cutting grass &c., the blade having a reinforcing metal bar extending along its length and which forms the means for attaching the blade to the rake or to a handle. Fig. 1 shows a rake to which a blade a is attached by a reinforcing bar c secured to the blade by rivets b. The ends c<1> of the bar c are turned up and connected to the end members of the rake by screws and nuts d. The ends c<1> are cut away to form stops c<2> that abut against the end members of the rake. The blade is of greater length than the rake so that it can be used near walls and in corners. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the rake h is made in one with the blade a, a socket f for a handle being secured to the reinforcing bar c. Fig. 4 shows a further modification in which spaces a<2> are formed at the roots of the teeth of the rake for catching the heads of daisies and other weeds.
