Abstract

498,454. Measuring fabrics &c. AESCHBACH, W. E., and MEASUREGRAPH CO. April 14, 1938, No. 11598. [Class 42 (ii)] In a measuring-machine provided with measurement indicators 12, 13, price charts 14, and printing mechanism 19, which prints a measurement card when the notching cutter 27 is depressed, means are provided for preventing the printing of more than one card at the end of each measurement. The cutter 27 can only be operated at predetermined times, e.g. after each one-eighth yard measured. The measuring roller 4 is geared to a disc 29 having notches 31 at intervals corresponding to, say, one-eighth yard measurements. A sliding bar 32 connected to a lever 33 can be pushed into any notch 31 by a spring 34 unless this lever is locked by lever 41 pivoted at 43 or by a catch 59 pivoted at 58 and engaging under the pin 36 in the lever 33. When the cutter 27 is depressed, a lever 38 and a lever 41 which has a pin-and-slot connection therewith are freed, and if the bar 32 is opposite a notch 31, the spring 34 moves the lever 33 and in so doing depresses the arms 44 and 50 of two levers pivoted respectively at 43, 49. The opposite end 42 of the lever 44 is thus moved against the spring 45 above the pin 46 on the cutter 27, allowing the cutter to be depressed fully. The pin 46 passing beneath the arm 42 moves the lever 44 further and also the lever 48 so that its projection 51 passes to the other side of the spring catch 53. A bent projection 56 near the top of the lever 48 now engages the catch 59 and if the knife 27 be now raised the lever 33 will lift and its pin 36 be caught by the catch 59. The lever 42 will then return to the position shown in Fig. 3 and further operation of the knife will not be possible until the indicators &c. have been returned to zero. When the resetting button 24 is depressed, it moves a lever 73, the inclined end 75 of which engages a second projection 54 at the top of the lever 48 and returns the lever 48 to its original position at the same time freeing the catch 59 from the pin 36 of lever 33. The catch 59 is also withdrawn when the indicator reading is zero by an arm 63 on a vertical shaft 64 which carries another arm 69 arranged to be displaced by an arm 70 on the shaft 72 of the indicator 12.when the latter is at the zero position.
