Abstract

498,374. Automatic exchange systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 4, 1938, No. 3579. Convention date, March 10, 1937. [Class 40 (iv)] In a system employing automatic ticketing machines, the tariff is recorded in monetary values in accordance with the zones of the calling and called parties. As shown, an incoming selector, Fig. 1, at a central exchange is associated over finders JF, CF with a tariff determining circuit, Fig. 2, and with a ticketing machine, Fig. 4. Test relays Cn, Ct (not shown) of the finders operate, connecting up Ri, Pw, and impulses are repeated to the register switch ST and to the digit wheel magnet DPM. The relapse of Lm, at the end of the first digit connects up Ed, whereupon Df energizes and operates the magnet CM which rotates a shaft MCS through one revolution to effect printing. Relays Ri, Pw fall back temporarily and release Ed, and the sequence switch SD moves to position 2 in which Ef pulls up and prevents further stepping of ST. Relays Lm, Ed, however, respond to the remaining digits and control printing. In position 5 of SD, Ed connects direct ground instead of resistance ground to energize marginal relay Nf as well as Df, so that the magnet CM operates independently of Ri and rotates the shaft MCS through several revolutions corresponding to blank positions on the tape until cams CS (which move forward at each revolution of MCS) reach position 10. Relays Ri, Pw re-operate and connect up Ic, Bd (SD being in position 6), whereupon relay Ih is controlled by an interrupter to send impulses to the digit wheel magnet DPM and to the counting switch SC. One of the wipers of the register switch ST is chosen in accordance with the zone of the calling party by the position of the finder JF, the terminals of corresponding junctions being jumpered together at Z 1-3, and the banks of ST are cross-connected to relays Tf. Ot which mark stopping positions of SC in positions 6-9 of SD. Relay Ed responds when a stopping position is reached, restoring SC and effecting printing as described above. In the example shown, the tariff expressed in francs and centimes is 0-80 with Tf, Ot both inoperative, 1-20 with Ot operated and 2-00 with Tf operated. The tariff determining circuit then releases. If more than one digit is required to determine the zone of the called party, several register switches ST and a translating switch would be employed. The zone of the calling party may be determined by a signal or a digit received over the junction. Specification 472,434 is referred to.
