Abstract
497,537. Bourdon pressure gauges. SCHLAICH, H. April 19, 1938, No. 11669. Convention date, April 15, 1937. [Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a Bourdon tube in the form of a double coil, double spiral, or double helix or turns in which part of the tube in the middle of its length intermediate of the ends is provided with a strengthening rib. The instrument consists of a casing 1, a Bourdon tube 2, a compensating spring 3, a setting screw 4 and an indicating element 8. The tube is wound to form a double coil 2a, 2b connected by a turn 2c which has a strengthening rib 6 of the section shown in Fig. 3. The rib may run uniformly or taper down and decrease in thickness at the ends or again may keep the same thickness and narrow gradually at the ends or both. The total length of rib formed in the middle part of the spring is such that when the spring is fully wound the part of the rib 6 of uniform thickness extends over the connecting turn while the tapering parts of the rib are situated within the outer turns of the respective coils. A plurality of ribs located side by side may be employed. Specification 237,218, [Class 106 (ii)], is referred to.
