[Class 6 (i)] A tool for an agricultural implement, having a comparatively slow speed of rotation has the general shape of a triangle, spear point or goose foot, any section of which at rightangles to the axis of rotation is a part of the cycloid traced by that part of the section which first enters the ground. Figs. 1 and 2 show a tool consisting of three members carried by arms radiating from a hub 1. Each member consists of two wings 7 connected along a line 6, 8. Fig. 1 shows the cycloid traced out by the point 6 and the section of the tool along the line 6, 8 corresponds to the part 11 of the cycloid. Any other section of the tool at right-angles to the axis 1, for example on the line A, A, Fig. 2, corresponds to a part of the cycloid traced out by the point 13 which is the point of the cutting edge to enter the soil first. The part of the cycloid which is selected for the shape of the tool is that part situated from about 10 to 15 cm. below the surface of the ground. The arms 5 may have various shapes as shown in Fig. 1 and they may be curved upwardly so that they do not strike the ground before the cutting edges of the tool. In this construction the arms may be of cycloidal shape. Fig. 6 shows a construction in which the tools are carried by a disc 16 and Fig. 10 shows a further modification in the shape of the tool. Two separate tools of the shape shown in Fig. 12 may be secured on opposite sides of the hub or a tool twisted in opposite directions as shown in Fig. 15 may be used. Other modifications in the shape of the tool are described but in all cases the sections of the tool are cycloidal.
