Abstract

495,923. Rasping-apparatus; paring leather &c. ; milling-cutters. MONTAGNE, A. Jan. 15, 1938, No. 1416. [Class 59] [Also in Groups VIII and XXII] A paring-wheel for leather, soft metal, &c. comprises a carrier disc and a metal body with cutting edges formed by a single wire wound like a helical spring which is removably secured on the periphery or side of the disc. As shown a disc 2 is provided with a cutter 1 formed in the manner of a helical spring of oval, quare, triangular &c. section, and is secured to the disc by a plate 4. The disc may be grooved at 6 to receive individual coils and the coils may be backed off to form cutting edges or may be grooved transversely at 9, Fig. 2, to limit the length of the fibre produced by cutting. In Fig. 2 the cutter 1 is shown attached to the side of the disc by a plate 4a and in Fig. 4a a two part disc 2a is shown, the triangular cutter 1 being engaged in slots in the disc by a two part ring 3. The cross-section of the wire may be of various shapes. The cutter may be reversed when worn.
