Abstract
<PICT:0494344/III/1> Liquids or mixtures of liquids are distilled by dispersion in another liquid, the boiling point of which is equal to or greater than the boiling point of the liquid to be distilled, and a constant regulation as by controlling the feed is established so as to maintain the composition and temperature of the liquid contained in the boiler; the feed is provided from a constant-level tank, the height of which can be set relative to the boiler, and the setting is subjected to overriding or automatic control based upon the temperature in the boiler. A boiler 8 is connected by a jointed tube 7 with a constant-level device 3 which is connected in turn by a flexible pipe 2 to the main feed tank 1. The boiler 8 contains liquid into which new liquid is fed, and the vapours pass away through a pipe 10 to a chamber 11 filled with Raschig rings and thence by a pipe 12 to the condenser. The device 3 is carried by a bracket 4 with a screw connection to a shaft 23 adapted to be rotated by an electric motor which is controlled by a thermostatic device at the top of the boiler. Vapours produced in the boiler may be introduced by pipe 15 into the top of the boiler and/or into the chamber 11 to ensure an intimate mixture of the vapours in order to modify the final composition of the distillation product. The invention is applicable to substances in a more or less fatty, syrupy or pasty state or mixtures thereof with other liquids.
