Abstract
493,220. Cleaning shoes; scrapers. PENNELL, R. H. L. June 5, 1937, Nos. 15608 and 27454. [Class 138 (i)] [Also in Group XIV] A device for cleaning shoes while on the foot comprises a stand 1 formed with foot rests 4, which may be of different heights, and with a circular boss 13 on which a member 14 rests with freedom to tilt. A rod 5, mounted rotatably in the member 14 by means of a ball-bearing 16, has a handle 6 and carries a circular brush 8 and scrapers 9. The brush comprises two semicircular brushes of the twisted-wire type removably mounted on a cross-bar 7. In use, the brush is rotated and also is tilted, as required, into contact with the shoe. The brush may be cleaned by rotating it in contact with a rod supported vertically in a socket 17 in the base. The boss 13 may be undercut to facilitate tilting. Scrapers alone may be mounted on the rod 5, or the brush may comprise different segments respectively for brushing, polish-applying, &c. Fixed scrapers also may be provided on the base 1, which may have a cup-shaped socket to receive the rounded foot of the rod 5. In this case, a separate socket may receive the foot of the rod to hold it upright when not in use. The brush 14 may be globular. The stand may comprise ferro-concrete foot rests connected by metal strips serving as fixed scrapers, or may be dispensed with.
