Abstract

493,115. Gun turrets. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and FRISE, L. G. April 1, 1937, No. 9308. [Class 92 (i)] A gun turret for aircraft comprises a fixed hood having a horizontal gun slot closed by a sliding flexible band 15 during traversing movements of the gun 12, elevating movements of the gun being effected transversely of the slot. The band is formed of canvas stiffened by vertical wooden battens 16 each end of the band being connected to an anchorage by elastic cords 21 which may pass over pulleys. The channelshaped guides 13, 14 for the band may act as stiffening members for the hood structure. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the band is coiled at each end round spring-controlled pulleys 29, 30. British Specification 441,084 and French Specification 776,317 are referred to.
