Abstract

Organic glass is prepared by interpolymerizing methyl methacrylate with other esters of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and monohydric alcohols containing not more than 16 carbon atoms, the esters not boiling below the boiling point of methyl methacrylate. Suitable esters include ethyl, propyl, n-butyl, amyl, hexyl and cetyl acrylates or methacrylates. The products may be dissolved, together with dyestuffs, turbidifying agents and fireproofing materials to yield coating-compositions.
