[Class 125 (ii)] In a counter-pressure filling-machine, the passage through which liquid is discharged from the reservoir A is provided with an upstanding flange e and over this is situated a sealing cap K, by which means foreign matter cannot pass from the bottle into the reservoir, being trapped at this point and flushed out at the next filling. Further, the gas-supply and pressure-equalizing tube G which passes through the liquid-supply passage projects into the bottle and is provided with lateral passages g<1> so that any foreign matter which may enter the tube, is blown out when the succeeding bottle is being filled. In the form shown, the pressureequalizing tube G is capable of vertical movement, being carried by the weighted lever m, and it carries the liquid-supply valve B; the gas-supply valve J<1> is located at the upper end of the tube G, being suspended from a lever j<4> and held with limited vertical movement by a cap j<2>, the levers j<4> being weighted so that they tend to hold both their respective valves in the open position ; in the cover of the reservoir A there is mounted a shaft n<3> carrying the actuating star wheel O at its upper end and at its lower end a pivoted cam member N which engages projections j<5>, j<6> on the lever j<4>. The following is the sequence of operations : both valves B, J<1> are held closed by the cam N engaging the projection j<6>; rotation of the cam through 180‹ rocks the lever j<4> so opening the gas valve J<1>, the liquid-supply valve B remaining closed ; rotation of the cam N through 90‹ frees entirely the lever j<4>, and the gas pressure in the reservoir and the bottle now being equalized, the liquid-supply valve B opens.
