Abstract

492,343. Stereoscopic pictures and viewing devices therefor. PER S E R CORPORATION. March 17, 1937, No. 7885. Convention date, March 17, 1936. [Class 97 (i)] A lenticulated screen for viewing a stereoscopic image of the composite strip type 15 comprises a transparent support element 11 having attached thereto a sheet of gelatine 12 having on its surface a series of image-forming lenticulations 13, these lenticulations having a matt surface when formed and being rendered optically smooth by applying a closely adherent transparent film covering said surface. The film may be a varnish such as cellulose lacquer. The lenticulations may be cut with a tool with a number of grooves 21 each with a cutting edge 22, Fig. 4. The observed effect may be improved by varnishing the print which is being viewed. The print may be produced photomechanically. When a half tone print is used, however, moirÚ effects may be produced when the separation of the rows of dots or a small multiple thereof is of the same order as the separation of the elements of the viewing screen. The reason for these is discussed in the Specification, and it is shown how they may be avoided by arranging the dots in rows with suitable separations and angular relation to the elements of the viewing screen. Also described is a coloured picture produced from a black and white photomechanical print by applying a coat of varnish to prevent smudging, and then applying colouring by hand. The lenticular screen may be used in conjunction with a translucent diffusing surface to receive projected images. Specifications 117,342, [Class 98 (ii)], 389,123, and 392,161 are referred to.
