[Class 84] A device for sof tening butter and similar solid comes tibles comprises a water container 1 rectangular in plan and having side wall, which converge downwardly in the form of a wedge and provide one or more hollow fingers 2 which are pushed down into the butter &c. after the container has been charged with hot water through an aperture, which may be closed by a plug or cap 4, 7, in the top of the container from which extends upwards a handle 5. In one form, Fig. 1, the container is V-shaped in section and has fingers 2 separated by rectangular spaces 3. In another form, Fig. 3, a single finger 2 is provided, in the form of a rightangled triangle in section with the hypotenuse wall slightly curved.
