Abstract

490,392. Ignition systems. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and KNIGHT, H. DE B. Feb. 15, 1937, No. 4513. [Class 7 (iv)] In systems in which a condenser 3 is charged from a source of current and afterwards discharged through the primary winding 6 of a transformer, gaseous discharge tubes are inserted in the primary and secondary circuits. The voltages applied and induced are insufficient to produce discharge until the paths are ionized by the application of a charge to subsidiary electrodes 13, 17. A small condenser 18 is in circuit with the source of current and a two-way switch which alternately engages contacts 20, 21 in the primary circuits of the coils 23, 26. The induced voltages are applied to the electrodes 13, 17.
