Abstract

A catalyst carrier consists of fine threads of quartz glass, preferably in the form of a mass of wool which is compressed in the direction of gas flow but not in other directions. The wool may be made by feeding coarse threads to a long high-speed flame which draws them out and blows them against a collecting surface. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of other difficultly fusible glasses in a similar form. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
