Abstract

489,503. Toys. BRITAINS, Ltd., and SMALLWOOD, G. E. Jan. 29, 1937, No. 2683. [Class 132 (iii)] A track for electrically driven toy motor-cars and other road vehicles comprises a flexible nonconductive strip provided with flexible parallel current conveying rails so that the track can be curved laterally when laid on a flat or an undulating supporting surface. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a rubber strip a has a series of staggered spaced b, b<1> terminating in punched holes d, d<1>, and is provided with parallel channels f, f<1> receiving the rails formed of helical conductive wires or of flexible soft metal cores c<2>, c<3> wound with helical conductive wires c<4>, c<5>. The base of the strip is provided with adhesive tape or pins for attachment to a support. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, a flexible strip a<1> is formed of diagonally loosely woven braid or fabric to allow of lateral curvature and is provided with rails k, k<1> formed as in Fig. 1, and connected to the strip a<1> by ties at intervals. The rails convey current from a supply source to the driving motor of the toy vehicle by shoes or grooved pick-up wheels, the road wheels running on the support to which the flexible strip a or a<1> is attached. The track can be used with toy motor-cars of the kind described in Specification 488,439, in which grooved pick-up wheels are mounted on lever mechanism connected to the steering wheels of the car. Three rails may be used in conjunction with a reversing switch.
